Education

There are many public schools that is administrated by the central government and a few which are run by private or some catholic organisations. However, they will still take the same set of state-controlled exams. It is necessary for the Italian children to go to school to complete their basic education and then choose to pursue further studies or to find a job.

Their primary education is six years, starting from the age of six until eleven. They will be taught on Italian, mathematics, history and science with the help of images and music usually. Then they will go to intermediate school that lasts of three years and study Italian literature, history, geography, mathematics and also foreign language. This is when they finished their basic education and decide to continue studies or otherwise.
The Italian children later have to get a diploma if they decide to get into high school and they will get to choose which ‘course’ they want. For example, the profession discipline concentrates on chemistry, computer, electronic and the applied arts. The artistic discipline include four-year course of studio art and architecture. At the age of 18 or 19, student needs to pass the exams to go on to university or polytechnic. A minimum of four years to obtain a degree and students can choose when to take their exam.

If the Italian children choose to pursue further studies, they will have to complete their education in 16 years. Their educational system is actually quite similar to Singapore one as it took around the same years to finish our education.
